IEC 60268 acoustic testing provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating the performance and specifications of electroacoustic equipment, including frequency response, directivity, sensitivity, noise floor, linearity, and crosstalk. For accurate room acoustics measurements, using dodecahedral loudspeakers is common, and it’s important to check the directivity index at least every two years to ensure compliance with tolerance requirements. Our automated turntable testing system allows fast, efficient, and repeatable measurements, often with same-day turnaround, helping manufacturers, acoustic consultants, and engineers maintain reliable performance across a wide range of audio devices.
Our hemi-anechoic chamber is designed for acoustic free-field testing for a wide range of devices and equipment. This is a highly controlled environment that allows the measurement of your device to be unaffected by reverberation and background noise. With a background noise level of 8.8 dBA, the sound pressure levels between 100 Hz – 10 kHz are actually below the threshold of hearing, making this specialist facility ideal for testing the noise floor of very quiet devices.
The device is mounted and operated following the requirements of IEC 60268, using standardised test signals and measurement parameters to ensure reproducible and comparable results across laboratories. This allows manufacturers and acoustic engineers to verify that technical specifications such as frequency response, sensitivity, and directivity meet defined standards. For quality control or bespoke testing, custom tolerance limits can be programmed into our automated data acquisition system, providing precise, repeatable measurements tailored to your product requirements.
Results are provided in a detailed report containing all the information you need regarding the installation, testing methodology and performance specifications of your device. As a research laboratory, we are also in an excellent position to provide bespoke data analysis and reporting options to support product development or product comparison.
