IEC 60601-1 medical device testing covers the safety and performance of medical electrical equipment. Our UKAS-accredited sound and vibration testing ensures that devices meet strict limits for noise exposure and hand-transmitted vibration, protecting patients, operators, and nearby personnel. This testing provides reliable data to support regulatory compliance, product safety, and high-quality device performance.
Our hemi-anechoic chamber is designed for acoustic free-field testing for a wide range of devices and equipment. This is a highly controlled environment that allows the measurement of your device to be unaffected by reverberation and background noise. a background noise level of 8.8 dBA, the sound pressure levels between 100 Hz – 10 kHz are actually below the threshold of hearing, making this specialist facility ideal for testing the noise floor of very quiet devices.
The medical device is mounted and operated under typical use conditions to accurately replicate real-world performance. Following established occupational noise and vibration measurement techniques, our UKAS-accredited testing captures precise sound and vibration levels. To reduce measurement uncertainty, the device is tested repeatedly across multiple patients or operators, and the data is analysed to account for variability in usage—ensuring results are reliable, repeatable, and compliant with IEC 60601-1 safety requirements.
Results are provided in a detailed report containing all the information you need regarding the measurement of your medical device. The numerical data is typically provided as average acoustic or vibration energy, alongside a time-to-maximum-exposure. As a research laboratory, we are also in an excellent position to provide bespoke data analysis and reporting options to support product development or product comparison.
